7.26.11 – Bachir Attar of The Master Musicians of Jajouka will be performing at the Whitney Museum of American Art in NYC with Medeski, Scofield, Martin, & Wood on August 5th, 2011 at 7:00 PM. Admission is free with Museum admission, which is pay-what-you-wish on Fridays from 6–9pm; there are no special tickets or reservations. In celebration of their 20th anniversary, legendary band Medeski Martin & Wood will be in residence at the Whitney Museum of American Art on Friday nights in August as part of the Whitney Live performance series. Joined by guest artists each night, the performances will encompass older works and newer projects including several MMW side projects and a re-mounting of the acclaimed Turntable Sessions. Bachir Attar alone from the Master Musicians of Jajouka will be performing with MMW and Scofield on August 5th as Mustapha Attar will not be there though the site mentions otherwise. 5.05.11 – It's with great honor that Bachir Attar and The Master Musicians of Jajouka will be performing at the annual Festival Mata on May 13th, 2011. Thousands of devotees and visitors, several Moroccans and some foreigners, flock for several days to Jebel Al Alam, in the province of Larache, about 90 km southeast of Tangier, to celebrate the annual Moussem Moulay Abdeslam Ben M'Chich Sheikh of Jbala. This is a place of worship and meditation, which houses the shrine of Sheikh of Al Chorfa Alamiyine Machichiyine. Master Musicians of Jajouka led by Bachir Attar performed at the Consulat de France and appeared at The Paul Bowles Centennial Photographic Exhibition: "The Golden Years"

10.27.10 –The French Consul General invited the Master Musicians of Jajouka led by Bachir Attar to perform at the Consulat de France during the five days of Paul Bowles Centennial events held in Tangier, Morocco, from October 27 to 31, 2010. The Master Musicians performaed at the VIP Party for the Paul Bowles Centennial Celebration in Tangier directed by the French Consul General Jean-Yves Berthault.

"The Golden Years"was The Paul Bowles Centennial Photographic Exhibition at The Instituto Cervantes in Tangier. Cherie Nutting's silver gelatin prints were among the photographs displayed in the exhibition.The photographs were from her book with Paul Bowles entitled "Yesterday's Perfume" (Clarkson and Potter Publisher 2000). The Exhibition was directed by Cecilia Fernandez Suzor.

8.23.10 –Bachir Attar and The Master Musicians of Jajouka have a new album today entitled The Source. It is avaialble now through Amazon UK here . The album was produed by Marc Hurtado and Bachir Attar, and released on Le Son Du Maquis. The release is dedicated to the memory of British/Canadian artist Brion Gysin, and the notes include a list of other devotees of The Master Musicians of Jajouka, including of course Paul Bowles, William S. Burroughs, Brian Jones and Ornette Coleman.

Bachir Attar performs at the Hand of Fatima Monday November 16, 2009

11.16.09 – Bachir Attar was recently in New York to co-host a tribute to the writer Robert Palmer held at Le Poisson Rouge on November 16th. The evening featured readings from Palmer's work and performances by Lenny Kaye, who played an amazing improvisational number with Mr. Attar), Ladell McLin, The Kropotkins, and many others. Co-hosted by Augusta Palmer and Anthony DeCurtis, who edited the newly released Blues & Chaos: The Music Writing of Robert Palmer,the event was also a benefit for the Master Musicians of Jajouka. Bachir Attar was also an honored guest at a book party for Blues & Chaos held at The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's New York Annex and appeared for Q & As at the NY theatrical premiere of The Hand of Fatima, Augusta Palmer's documentary about her rock critic father's fascination with Jajouka. The film prominently features Mr. Attar and the music of the Master Musicians.

Bachir Attar performs at the Festival of World Cultures August 29, 2009

08.11.09 – Bachir Attar will be performing at the DLR Festival of World Cultures at the Pavilion Theatre in Dún Laoghaire, Dublin, Ireland. Bachir will be performing solo on August 29th. The performance will take place in the evening at the Pavilion Theatre from 21:00-22:30 (9:00 pm-10:30 pm). Bachir will be playing alongside Sufi Mystical vocalist, Sain Zahoor. Jajouka at 2009 Meltdown Festival with Ornette Coleman

05.19.09 – Bachir Attar and the Master Musicians of Jajouka are pleased to announce that they will be performing with Ornette Coleman at Southbank's 2009 Meltdown Festival in London, England June 13th through June 21st. As the musical "master of ceremony," Jajouka will be opening each night of music with a special half-hour performance on the Royal Festival Hall Level 2 Terrace. On Friday June 19th and Sunday June 21st, Bachir Attar and the Jajouka Masters will headline with Ornette Coleman and special guests. LondonJazz reports additional guests Bill Frisell on June 19th and Charlie Haden + Flea on June 21st. These performances mark the first live collaboration between Jajouka and Ornette Coleman in more than ten years and also illustrate the continuation of a deep friendship and musical relationship between the two artists, spanning more than 4 decades. Beginning in 1974, Ornette Coleman released Dancing In Your Head on which the epic "Midnight Sunrise", recorded in Jajouka, features the musical collision between the Master Musicians of Jajouka, Ornette Coleman and the late Robert Palmer. In the mid to late 1990s, Ornette joined Bachir Attar and the Master Musicians of Jajouka on stage for several highly acclaimed European performances. And just recently while on tour in the US, Bachir Attar and the Master Musicians of Jajouka reconnected with Ornette for some impromptu recording sessions at Ornette's New York City studio. New Record! Jajouka Live Volume 1

01.05.09 – Bachir Attar and The Master Musicians of Jajouka are pleased to announce the release of their new record, Jajouka Live Vol. 1. Recorded at the Centro Cultural de Belém in Lisbon, Portugal on the final night of a weeklong tribute to Paul Bowles, Live Vol. 1 is the debut release on Jajouka Records, owned and operated by Bachir Attar and the Master Musicians. Produced by Bachir Attar and Michael Gassert, the album contains several new and never before released tracks, capturing the group at the height of their powers.

Currently, Jajouka Live Vol. 1 is available for secure download in MP3, FLAC, and Apple Lossless formats through jajoukarecords.com. All Files are 100% DRM free and include album artwork by Kate Diamond. US physical and world–wide digital release date: January 27th, 2009. Physical release in Europe and Japan: Spring 2009. Jajouka Documentary: The Hand of Fatima

12.23.08 – Bachir Attar and The Master Musicians of Jajouka will appear in the eagerly awaited documentary film The Hand of Fatima, which travels from Mississippi to Morocco to examine the long friendship between the Master Musicians of Jajouka and legendary New York Times music critic Robert Palmer. The Hand of Fatima features exclusive footage of the village of Jajouka as well as interviews with Yoko Ono, Donovan, Genesis P. Orridge, Anthony DeCurtis, and Stephen Davis.

Directed by Palmer’s daughter, Augusta, the film has received grants from NYSCA, the Lucius and Eva Eastman Fund, LMCC, and the Wellspring Foundation. The Hand of Fatima was selected for IFP’s prestigious Rough Cut Lab in May 2008 and showcased at Independent Film Week in September 2008. Jajouka Summer Tour 2008

12.01.08 – The Master Musicians of Jajouka with Bachir Attar completed a highly acclaimed 2008 Summer Tour of Canada where they traveled coast to coast performing before crowds of thousands and were honored by receiving the Prix Minor award for their performance at Le Festival D’ete in Québec.
